o€> \ suggeSt'onS — P % Suggestions are still coming in at a surprisingly good rate and are still of the high calibre set during the first month. Here are some interesting results of your suggestions and also a few explanations which may clarify some questions asked: PARKING No other subject has engendered so many suggestions as the parking problem. And certainly no one would deny that it is a serious one, especially for our 3 to 11:30 personnel. However, we do have some GOOD news for these people: The doctors have very kindly consented to release 15 places in their parking lot for the use of evening shift personnel only. The little plastic cards which open the gate will be issued to 35 permanent evening personnel, after payment of a deposit. These cards must be used only during evening shift hours and specific regulations will be given each person who receives one. We are indeed indebted to our doctors for their cooperation in agreeing to try this method of relieving the parking congestion. With respect to the day shift parking, the Administration realizes that this is a problem, too, and is actively working on finding a solution. We hope to be able to report favorably on this some time in the future. The cancelling of parking along the East side of Franklin Street has intensified the problem, but this, of course, was not done by the hospital. CODING ON PAT CHECKS In the past, there have been a few complications in understanding the codes used on our paychecks. This has resulted from the mechanical.limitations of the machine. Happily, this will no longer be true when new procedures are put into effect which will allow processing of pay checks on the recently installed IBM equipment. Sister Michael Marie, Comptroller, hopes the new checks, which will be very explicit in coding, will be in use by the 2nd pay period of April. EVENING HOURS IN NURSING SERVICE We had several questions pertaining to the evening shift hours of 3(00 - 11:30 PM. These hours have been established based on the following considerations: 1. They eliminate to a degree the needless overlap of afternoon hours when two shifts are on duty and it's visiting hours besides. The AM shift far the most part leaves duty at 3:30 and this allows a full half hour for "transfer of command", which is adequate. 2. This schedule also allows a half hour from 11:00 PM, when the night shift arrives, until 11:30, when the evening shift leaves, for reports, etc. The evening peeple are still available to answer lights while the night shift receives instructions, thus making for more uninterrupted transfer of information, which in turn benefits our patients. PROCEDURES Several recommended changes in procedures have been referred to the Department concerned, for consideration and study. You who have occasion to use the supply requisitions on the nursing unite will have noticed that they are now printed with tho full list of items, rather than requiring the ward aecretary to type them in. This was the result of a suggestion. Thanks! (Contd next page)
