TRIBUTE TO TEN LADIES 27 Tribute To Ten Ladies I (Continued from Page 6) other St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing graduate has been a member of the Operating Room staff for the past twelve years. She returned to St. Joseph's after the death of her husband and has found her work in the Operating Room changing constantly. These changes are acceptable, however, beause they are a part of the advances necessary in that busy department. Mrs. White could, no doubt, write a book on all the experiences and changes she has seen in the past twelve years as an operating room nurse. Mrs. Winifred Beers has more years than the record book shows. She is a graduate of St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing of Pendleton, Oregon. During the time that she has been at St. Joseph's she says that the following things have impressed her most: 1. "The development of the Housekeeping Department from a haphazard group of untrained help to the present highly efficient department. 2. The Dietary Department has developed into an efficient teaching department, and the quality and variety of the meals have steadily developed into the best in the city. 3. There has always been the problem of finding enough rooms and beds for the patients. We still have beds in the halls and single rooms are doubled in spite of the addition of the Dower wing. 4. In all this rapid growth the patient has always had a feeling of belonging in 'St. Joe's', although the increased number of employees has taken away the closely knit family-like group that used to work so closely together. They are now very impersonal and change quite rapidly. You hardly know the names of employees on other floors. 5. During this same time, we have seen the rapid strides in medicine and the difference in the way we care for and treat the patients. We have seen, also, the improved results of the shorter convalescence time." To complete the group of nurses who have given so much time and service on St. Joseph's Second floor, we have Mrs. Bertha Beal who has been here, too, much more than the ten years of the record books. Mrs. Beal is a St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing graduate, and she has seen much change and advance by the hospital as can be seen in the following notation made by her.
