DID YOU KNOW: Colorado is known as the "Top of the Nation" because it contains 75% of all the area in the U.S. over 10,000 feet. It has 54 peaks more than 14,000 feet high, and over 1000 peaks two miles high. The mountainous area of Colorado is six times that of Switzerland. Elevation extremes range from 3300 feet on the Colorado-Kansas line to 14,431 at the top of Mount Elbert. Trail Ridge Road, at 12,183 feet, is the nation's highest continuous highway. Colorado is the eighth largest state, with an area of 104,247 miles. The State has more than 296 days of sunshine per year, with an average humidity of 33%. I MMMmmM \ifc�5sw' Grand Lake is the highest registered yacht club in the world. Golf Lessons anyone? The Employee Health Education Committee, in an effort to encourage employee recreational and physical fitness, passes along this information. Mr. Jim Man, golf pro at Kennedy Golf Course, will give group golf lessons to our Hospital employees and their friends at a reduced rate. For a series of six lessons, the charge is $25 a person for groups of two to four, and $20 a person for groups of five to eight people. Charge includes use of clubs and balls. Lessons are every day except Monday. I The Committee also reminds employees the physical fitness program at a special rate is still available at Gym of Denver. Contact Employee Health Service at extension 2235 for details on these two programs. Colorado has 54 peaks more than 14,000 feet high. Waters west of the Continental Divide How into the Pacific Ocean; east of the Divide, into the Atlantic. The State is second in the nation in the production of sugar beets. It leads the nation in oil shale reserves, and molybdenum production. Only Washington D.C. has more federal offices than Denver. The U.S. Mint here is second only to Fort Knox in gold depositories. The world's largest open air hot springs swimming pool is at Glenwood Springs. The highest registered yacht club in the world is at Grand Lake. There are almost 3.000 varieties of wild flowers in the foothills. Colorado Carnations are the only trade-marked flowers in the U.S. A third of the zinnia seeds for the U.S. are produced in the Arkansas Valley. We have two national parks, six national monu- ments, one national recreation area, and 1 1 national forests. We have over 32 developed ski areas. Grand Mesa is the world's largest Hat-top moun- tain. Colorado, "Mother of Waters", has 13.022 miles of unposted trout streams, and 2,311 trout lakes open to public fishing. The Capitol dome is covered with 24-carat gold totaling 250 ounces. The state flower is the Columbine (it is against the law to pick them). The state animal is the bighorn sheep, and the lark bunting is the state bird.
