Pastoral Care Corner DY SISTER MARY CARLO, SCL Pastoral Associate How Do I Love You? Let Me Count the Ways" How many rimes during rhe day are you aware of rhe many ways God shows his special love jusr for you? His love comes ro us through all of creation � through rhe eyes of anorher person; through the pages of a book; through rhe words of a poem; through the look from a friend; in the sunrise; in a delicate flower; rhrough a work of art � a painting ora pieceof sculpture; in a special movie,- a chance remark from a srranger; rhe melody of a song; rhrough a chance meering wirh a friend. He takes us by surprise at rhese comings � they are usually unexpected and in unusual ways � it's like a miracle; it's a mysrery! He appears to us and we realize we are truly loved � and from that moment on, our lives are changed and we are never really quire the same again. God loved us so much that He sent his only begotten Son that rhrough him we may have life and have it to the full. Jesus is rhe Word of rhis love, uttered into the world. God comes ro us in him, wanting to share, to communicate rhe goodness, rhe joy, and rhe love rhar is his. He wants to love us into the fullness of life. Jesus is the human way God chose to ger close to us � to put his arm around us. The impetus of God's love comes from within himself, to share with us his life and love. It is a gift, freely given, not earned or deserved or claimed by any right of ours. It is a beautiful, eternal gift, held out to us in rhe hands of love. If is unconditional love. And all we have to do is say "Yes!" and open ourselves ro receive this pearl of grear price that will transform usand every momentof our lives. But the keyword is openness. We hove to keep our hearts and eyes and ears open so that we may recognize his love surrounding us in all rhese unusual and unexpected places and people. God uses each of us as channels of his love through which gifts can flow ro our neighbors. Our lives, then, are ro be shared, not hidden and spent alone. Each morning, then, we should pray, "How will you show yourself, Lord? Help me ro be open to see and hear you and receive your love through whatever meansyou choose. How will you come to me today?" Then wait... bealert...be open...and don'r be surprised if his love comes to you in a very srrangely wrapped package! cupboard clippings Lentil Soup 1 pound bag lentils 1 carrot, diced 2 stalks celery, diced 2 red potatoes, peeled and diced 1 whole onion, diced 2 packages smoll link smoked sausage, cut in circles 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper 1/4 rsp. garlic Vz tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 3 quarts wafer Bring water to a boil, add lentils, carrot, celery, potatoes, onion and spices, simmer over low heat three hours. 15 minutes before serving, add sausage. Serve wirh dollop of sour cream, if desired.
