SAINT JOSEPH HOSPITAL DENVER, COLORADO' Volume 5, No. 6, September, 1984 JCAH Gives Saint Joseph High Marks The Summation Conference of the JCAH team, which inspected Saint Joseph Hospital July 18 through 20, was highly complimentary to the Hospital and staff. The three-person team, comprised of a nurse, a physician and an administrator, each evaluating his/her area of expertise, had few minor and virtually no major recommendations for our Hospital. The nurse surveyor had special praise for nursing, complimenting all the nurses on excellent documentation and praising the Patient Education area, in particular, for special achievement. The nursing areas received no recommendations for improvement. The evaluating team's general comments were very complimentary, as well. "We could tell that the quality of care here was very high. This prestigious hospital... is very fortunate to have a Board of Directors which takes such a great interest in the hospital. Such is not always our experience." A formal, written evaluation is expected from the JCAH during the next quarter. Volunteer: Help Make Denver Breathable In an effort to make the winter of 1984 less noxious than its predecessors and to meet clean air standards for metro Denver by 1987, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission has established volunteer guidelines to curb pollution. Saint Joseph Hospital will join with many private, public and civic organizations taking part in the plan's advocacy, promotion and implementation during this and subsequent years. Lois Lachman, Assistant Director of Personnel, is coordinating the Hospital's role in the campaign. Governor Richard Lamm and Denver Mayor Federico Pena will provide leadership at the civic level. The Better Air Campaign calls for metro drivers to voluntarily share rides, ride the bus or not drive one day a week between November 15 and January 15 each year. In addition, when pollution levels are predicted to be high, all drivers will be asked to cancel or defer their non-essential trips to a day with better air quality. PLEASE SEE PAGE 8
