~ Vol. 4, No. 8 NOVEMBER, 1983--------- Stress Tests Available by Pat Pike The Jenkins Stress Test is being offered at cost to SJH employees by the Neurodiagnostic Department. Each of us working in the medical setting know how stressful our profes- sions can be. The Jenkins Activity Survey estimates the intensity and scope of the Type A Behavior Pattern. Several studies have associated Type A behavior with future risk of coronary heart disease. The Jenkins Stress Test results produce four scores: the Type A score and three additional scores representing the independent factors which identify the specific aspects of behavior con- tributing most strongly to the Type A. These three scores are: speed and impatience; the job involvement; and drive and competition. The test requires fifteen minutes to take and is available to employees at a cost of $10. The computer printout will be yours to keep and share with those who may help you to control your stress: your doctor, your counselors and spiritual advisers. To sign up for your computer stress assessment call Neurodiagnostics at extension 7021. Ideabank Chairman JoAnn Gardner and Executive Vice President Dave Reeb present cash awards to (left to right) Linda Seipp, Jeannie Everett and Dawn McCarty for their money- savings ideas. Ideas Reap Rich Rewards The Ideabank campaign officially ended on November 1, but the results will be with SJH for a long time to come. Seven-hundred forty-four ideas were submitted by 322 employees. Of the 744, 500 are still being evaluated and 45 are in the test stage for actual cost savings. An award of $1,066 went to Jeannie Everett, CV Lab, for her suggestion that a part-time employee be hired to replace an outside contractor for photographic work, saving SJH $10,660.00 annually. Linda Seipp of Diagnostic Imaging saved the hospital $910 annually by developing a new loading procedure for 105 mm film which saved 10 frames per roll. Linda was awarded $91. And $87.50 went to Dawn McCarty of Respiratory Therapy for her suggestion that Luken's tubes be replaced in some areas with the cheaper specimen traps, which saves the hospital $875 per year. A number of ideas received did not fit the criteria of saving money, but were such good ideas, that they have been adopted. Suggestions from Valerie Jamosky, Financial Services, Charles Purser of Materiel Management, and Cathryn Chunko, Post Partum, have been adopted by the hospital.
