Come Celebrate Our 10ath It's hard fo imagine a family birth- day party without home movies and special refreshments. Traditionalists and sentimentalists won't be disap- pointed in the celebration of Saint Joe's 108th Birthdaythere'll be "home movies" to show the way we were (no hissing or booing, please) and fresh popcorn and fruit juices. All this occurs in the Assembly Room on Monday, Sept. 21 from 2 p. m. to 4 p. m., and Tuesday Sept. 22, from 1 a. m. to 2 a. m. Watch for flyers with show times and more details. Changing of the Guard Effective Sept. 1, EagleSecurity Systems began fo provide security service for Saint Joseph Hospital. In order to make certain the chan- geover is accomplished without any interruption of service for the em- ployees and the public, Eagle Secur- ity and Midtown Security will jointly handle security functions throughout the month of September. For communication purposes, we will continue to use phone extension 6767; however, contact on that extension number will be made with our switchboard rathet than the Midtown communication system. With this change, our fransmittal of messages will be handled internally. Our contract with Eagle Security System provides for additional secur- ity coverage in the amount of 56 hours per week. We anticipate this added coverage will improve on our service and provide added as- sistance fot our employees. We want to reassure our employ- ees of our continued effort to reeval- uate the security function and to improve on service as needed. Heart Place One Year Old The Heart Place, Saint Joseph's Cardiac Rehab Center, is only o beat away from its first birthday, Sept. 23. The Center pumps out an exercise, counseling and education program for cardiac patients. Hospi- tal staff will be in the right vein if they take advantage of a variety of fitness activities including aerobics classes, a running club and Fitness Friday programs. The Safe Side by Jacque Decker Heart to Heart Everyone is aware that diet, smok- ing and stress are factors in heart disease, although no one is quite sure just how important any one factot is. Now, accotding to Science News, researchers at Ohio State University have uncovered another contributing factor so unexpected they repeated the experiment twice each time with the same results. It seems the kind of fendet loving care you get can be significant in how well your heart holds up. During the experiments the researchers discovered that 14 rabbits who were cuddled and played with showed only half as much evidence of arterio- sclerosis as rabbits who got routine, impersonal laboratory core. Obviously, whoever dreamed up the heart as the symbol of love must have known something. Hug a bunny today or, better yet, o heart patient. New CT Scanner In an effort fo keep up with the lafest in the state-of-the-art, Saint Joseph Hospital has submitted a Certificate of Need application to the Colorado Health Facilities Review Council for a new CT Scanner. The application indicates the new scanner, which gives cross-section views of a patient's brain, would be cost effective. The hospital's current scanner will be retained as a back-up. The application will be ptesented to the council at its November meeting.
