Vol. 1, No. 5 March, 1980 ________Soint Joseph Hospitol, Denver, Colorado Radiology Celebrates Anniversary Dy Jenny Powell March is a special month for Radiology. On March 20, the depart- ment will recognize a two-year anniversary in its new location. To some people, the old location never existed. But to old timers it was very much a part of the first floor area which now houses Medical Records. In contrast to the old 10,000 square-foot location, housing six rooms and a specials lab, the new location covers an area of 53,000 square feet on the third, fourth and fifth floors. Diagnostic Radiology can be found on the third floor and has 15 equipped rooms. Ultra- sound, Nuclear Medicine and Special Procedures are located on the fourth floor and Radiation Therapy is on the fifth floor. Most of the rooms on the third floor sport new equipment which was purchased specially for the new location. There is also a variety of x-ray equipment scattered through- out the hospital. Radiology has six portable machines on various floors, a fully equipped emergency room, 2C-arm intensifiers and four x-ray rooms in surgery. The CT Scanner was another machine introduced in the new location. CT is located on the fourth floor and handles up to 15 patients a day. In the early stages, CT could only handle four patients a day. Now, with technical aspects flowing smoothly, patients travel from all the surrounding mid-west states for scans. X-ray is in operation 24 hours a day and functions on an in-patient and out-patient basis. This concept was developed so the sick patients do not interact with the well patients. Personnel Notes Dy Patty Anderson The Personnel Deportment encourages all employees who are leaving Saint Joseph Hospital to participate in an exit interview. Since resignations represent a consider- able loss to the hospital, it is important to learn the facts behind the resignation. Exit interviews can be completed by an interview in the Personnel Department or by completing on exit interview questionnaire. Doth methods provide the resigning employee with the opportunity to discuss his job and his feelings toward his job in a confidential manner. Saint Joseph Hospital encourages employees to communicate their feelings so that the hospital may continue to improve and be responsive to employee needs. Getting Into Shape for Summer By popular demand, a new weight-loss contest will be held in the Employee Health Service on the ground floor of the Mullen Building. The initial weigh-in will be Monday, March 31 at 9 a.m. Each participant puts S>1 in the kitty. There will be five winners at the end of eight weeks, with the final weigh-in on Monday, May 19. Call the Employee Health Service at extension 7778 for further details.
