TOWERTALK 7 \ I m i r w ii*m~J 'i It will be a few months before John Crawford Smith takes an interest in the cup that Patsy Friend, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, presents to his mom on his behalf. John, son of Patti and Phil Smith, was this year's Saint Joseph baby, weighing in at 9 pounds, 10 ounces, at 12:01 a.m., March 19. Each year the Auxiliary presents a silver cup to the first baby born on Saint Joseph Day. That day the Auxiliary also presented Sister Mary Andrew with a check for $15,000 toward its 1987 pledge for SAGE, the Senior Health Program housed at the Family Practice Center. Local Heroine In January Jackie Cherry, RN, Surgery, was on her way to work aboard an RTD bus when the bus approached the scene of an auto- pedestrian accident. Cherry left the bus to provide emergency first aid to the pedestrian who had been injured. In March Cherry received a com- mendation from the Aurora Police Department for her "meritorious contributions to the Aurora Police Department and the public it serves." Aurora Chief of Police Gerald Williams praised her unselfish attitude and willingness to become involved. Her quick action, he said, "prevented the pedestrian from going into shock and reduced the serious- ness of her injuries." Cherry has been an operating room technician at SJH for four and one- half years. Director of Surgery, Kay Lange, RN, said, "It doesn't surprise me that she would hop off a bus to help someone because she shows the same caring attitude here at work." Towertalk Wins CHA Award Towertalk has won an Award of Merit in the 1987 Catholic Health Association Communications ' Awards competition.
