^^WTi MARCH 23 CARDIAC WORKSHOP PLANNED FOR NURSES This year the Cardiac Workshop for Nurses, iich is sponsored jointly by the Colorado Heart Asso- ciation League for Nursing and Nurses Association will again be held at Saint Joseph Hospital. The topic for this year's day-long discussions is, "Caring For - Caring About the Patient." Over 250 nurses from the Metropolitan Denver area have been in- vited to attend. The purpose of the workshop is to dis- cuss the present day role of the nurse in meeting the needs of the patient with a Myocardial Infarction. Many outstanding speakers will participate in the program. Representatives from Saint Joseph who will be speaking are Sister Mary Christine, Supervisor of the Intensive and Coronary Care. Units, and Sue Lenihan, who is a Social Services Assistant assigned to Saint Joseph. Other speakers include Dr. Austin Mutz, Dr. Herbert Brettell, Dr. Lane Craddock, Dr. L. Loring Brock and Nancy Stanford, R.N. Plans are being made to ac- commodate those who desire to eat lunch in our Tower- teria. The program will be followed by a tour of the hospital. We are pleased that the Colorado Heart Associa- tion decided to again hold this workshop at Saint Joseph Hospital. TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS JOIN NEW ORGANIZATION Eight medical technology students from the Hos- pital planned and participated in the second meeting of the state-wide Student Medical Technology Organization held here on March 9 in Assembly Room 1. Staff doctors who spoke at the meeting were Dr. J. P. Newby discuss- ing the heart pump, and Dr. R. E. Holman, the group's advisor, who discussed the kidney machine. The first meeting of the 80-member group was held at Colorado General Hospital in February and a third meeting will be held later this year. The students, their teaching supervisors, and pathologists discuss subjects of special medical interest which may not be included in the medical technology curriculum. Students from the Hospital in the organiza- tion are Patricia Miller, vice-president; Virginia Cortese, Jeanette McRae, Kay Batchelder, Joan Kreis, Judy Mag- ness, Shirley Nickel, and Cathy Moran. rGReeTiNGJS V.
