NURSES ENJOY LAS VEGAS DUTY (Last month we mentioned that several of our nurses are assisting the Saint Anthony Hospital in Las Vegas, New Mexico for a month. Following is an cerpt from a letter which Jane Cramer and Patricia inton sent to the hospital.) "Miss Cramer and I have now spent two weeks in Las Vegas, New Mexico at St. Anthony's Hospital and are looking forward to the coming two weeks, but with some regret, for when they end, we will have to leave this beautiful country and town for which we have acquired so great a liking." "...St. Anthony's Hospital has been of service to this community for over 71 years. It was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in 1896 as a sana- torium. In 1918 it was converted to a general hospital used mainly by our servicemen returning from war. Since that time it has remained a general hospital, except for a few years in the 30's when it was a state crippled childrens' hospital. "...Presently there are seven Sisters, with Sister Ann Raymond as Administrator. It has an active staff of nine medical doctors, a courtesy staff of four dental surgeons, a consulting staff of three pathologists and three radiologists. St. Anthony's has a training program for nurse aides which works in conjunction with the peal schools and state department of vocational educa- bn. Since our arrival the Director of Nursing Service has combined the nursing stations so there is only one station located on Center. This has proved to be a more efficient way of taking care of the patients while utiliz- ing the staff. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Saint Joseph for granting us the experience of working at St. Anthony's. We have enjoyed it immensely and it is an experience not to be forgotten." OUTPATIENT BROCHURE HELPS PATIENTS A striking blue and white striped brochure is now available for patients who are visiting the Out-patient Department for the first time. The new explanatory brochure was developed by the Out-Patient Department to meet the needs of an increased patient load and expanded services. The brochure explains the procedures performed in this department and the policies, and answers many ques- tions often asked by the patients and visitors who are under distress and concern.
