SAINT JOSEPH HOSPITAL* DENVER, COLORADO VOLUME 18, NUMBER 10 JULY 15, 1995 People's Choice Awards ************ Jeff Archombeau, Mary Keeler, Glenn Turner-Hagman, An Nguyen, and Marva Williams are the most recent People's Choice winners and were honored at a tea in the Tower Cafe in lune. The following comments were excerpted from their nominations. Jeff Archombeau, manager of the Saint Joseph Hospital PsychCenter, was nominated by an employee from another unit who sought help for a family member in need of psychiatric services. "Jeff spent approximately 30 minutes patiently explaining options and the reasons behind various treatments. He gave me his phone number and pager number and said he would meet with family members if we desired. I was pleased to find such a great person working for Saint Joseph Hospital." Mary Keeler, R.N., 3 South, received praise from a co-worker. In 26 years of working with Mary, "I have never heard her utter an unpleasant word about any of her patients. She is gracious to all she meets, especially families and visi- tors. As an employee of 30 years, Mary is one of the reasons that Saint Joseph Hospital has earned a repu- tation as a place of caring and giving people." Glenn Turner- Hagman, specialty team assistant, Surgery, "is one of those people without whom the Hospital could not function. Glenn is extremely knowledge- able, industrious, and organized and plays an integral part in the smooth functioning of the operating room." Although patient contact is a relatively small part of his many and varied duties, "he treats his patients as individuals with unique needs and demon- strates respect and compassion for them." Although An Nguyen, aide, Environmental Services, speaks only a little English, "his actions are worth thousands of words," according to his nomination. "He willingly takes on any task given to him. If all his assigned duties are completed, he finds other things to do." He shares his culture, including his wife's cooking, with the nursing staff, and he helped console a Vietnamese child whose parents were unable to be with him for a time. Marva Williams, Jeff Archambaau, Glann Turner-Hagman, and Mary Keeler are People's Choice winners. Marva Williams, office coordi- nator, Options, "is mature and patient and has a way of making everyone feel special and important. She is quick to point out the positive aspects of all situations and learns from her experiences. She accepts a great deal of responsibility in promoting the Hospital by volun- teering time with the Wellness Committee, and she was an outstanding guest relations trainer." Nominations for the next People's Choice awards are due by August 1. If you need a ballot, you can pick one up in the Tower Cafe or in the Planning and Marketing Department.
