fffVMHSTRATlVE Dear Employees: If s the time of year when we wait to hear the results of our participation in the National Residency Matching Program. On February 18, each residency program director submitted a final list of preferred candidates for the positions to be filled for the upcoming educational year, which begins in June. The matching program receives similar selection rankings from all participating applicant physi- cians. Then, by computer, each program's top-ranked candidates are matched against the prefer- ences of the applicants, and assignments are made. Naturally, the waiting period between submission of our "wish list" and the release of outcomes in March is a highly charged time for all those involved. We have had many excellent candidates show an interest in our residency Bruce Jensen, M.O. programsFamily Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, and Dental. Ten to 20 individuals have been interviewed for each first- year position available. A large percentage of candidates come from medical schools across the country, but students from the Raffle A $300 musical carousel, on display in the Gift Shop, will be raffled off by the Auxiliary on Thursday, March 31, at 3:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Gift Shop for $1 or six tickets for $5. James Tousky, Surgery, was the first person to buy a raffle ticket. Give him some competition and buy yourticket(s) soon! 1994 Saint Joseph Hospital Ecology Fair Thursday, April 14 9:00 Q.m. to 1:00 p.m. Assembly Rooms Displays of environmentally friendly products for consumer and hospital use SJH department projects that conserve resources Prize drawings Refreshments University of Colorado also are very interested in continuing their education at Saint Joseph Hospital. I have been impressed with the extremely high quality of young physicians we are able to recruit to our training programs. These residents bring enthusiasm, intel- lectual curiosity, and the potential to add continually to the solid capability of our medical staff. In a time when loyal physicians are the key to a hospital's future, we have the opportunity to form bonds with the "home grown" physicians from our own programs. In this way, they can become familiar names and faces around Saint Joseph's community for years to come. Bruce Jensen, M.D. Vke President, Medical Services SJH Saint Joseph Day Celebration Postponed Traditionally, Saint Joseph Hospital celebrates the Feast of Saint Joseph by inviting Archbishop J. Francis Stafford to celebrate mass in the Hospital chapel. However, this year the celebration had to be moved because the Feast Day is Saturday, March 19. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Archbishop is not available until April 28. Sister Marianna has extended an invita- tion to Archbishop Stafford to say mass on that date and to greet employees at a reception. Watch for more information in April.
