DECEMBER 3rd (If you have any news-eilher about yourself or one of your co-workers-please tell the Towerscope Re- porter in your Department. The names of the reporters are on page two.) DIETARY The Saint Joseph dietitians were host to the Den- ver Dietetic Association on September 28th. We have missed the friendly face of Katherine Meier who is at home recuperating from surgery. Our sympathy is extended to Clementine Smith and Alice Miller on the deaths of their fathers, Bertha Ward on the recent death of her mother, Gladys Abel, whose husband passed away, and Kathryn Metz on the loss of her grand- mother. OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Chet Markham on their recent marriage. Mrs. Markham is the former Geri Mclntire. We extend our deep sympathy to Mrs. Vera Jones, R.N., on the death of her mother. SCHOOL OF NURSING On October 25th and 26th the School of Nursing was visited by two members of the Colorado State Board of Nursing. The Board members were Mrs. Madeline Dickinson and Mrs. Henrietta Walsh. The board visits nursing schools every three years to make sure the scho- ols are complying with all regulations; and to view the education programs in action. LABORATORY The new Director of the Laboratory, Dr. John Holyoke, arrived on a permanent basis on October 16th, together with Harry Baumgardner, Administrative Super- visor. We welcome both of these newcomers to Colorado. INTERNS-RESIDENTS The goblins were out in full force on Sunday evening, October 30th, as members of the House Staff and their families entertained the Sisters and Drs. Mc- Dowell, Hicks and Johnson at a Halloween Party. The gala party-complete with costumes for all-was held in Assembly Room. Dr. Ed Quianzon, a second-year surgical resident from Colorado State Hospital, has joined our training pro- gram for the next six months. (Cont -- page 7 ) SECOND CIVIL DEFENSE DRILL On Saturday morning, December 3rd, the second civil disaster drill will get underway at Saint Joseph Hospital. More details of the drill and the preparations to be made will be presented to departments shortly. As you will recall, the first disaster drill was held on Saturday morning. October 8th, at which time the hospital was advised that a plane carrying 400 passen- gers had crashed at Stapleton Airport. The hospital, through its "hot line" and regular switchboard lines kept in direct communication with the central disaster headquarters and with the Hospital's Directors. The October 8th drill was simply a "paper drill" but in December the administration is making plans to use student nurses as "victims" so that employees will have a clearer idea of what to do in case of a real emer- gency. Oc77(^^" (Cont. from page 2) We Are Different Our Hospital is different in many other ways^^ I believe one of the reasons it is different is the way in which we work together to make our hospital the best. Our mottojhis year is, "Service to Each Other For Our Patients." Our Hospital is best because of the skills and pride of our men and women. Our philosophy of se- lecting adequate and competent personnel and providing just standards of employment is shown in the items men- tioned above, but what of our intangible regard for you, such as the unspoken, unexpected extras, the feeling of each employee that it is HIS or HER Hospital. SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP You are personally involved because it is your pride in patient care which helped to build the Hospital, and which now maintains its leadership. We have a close-knit relationship, and the way in which we live and work together in our Hospital is an important part of this tradition. Our relationship is based on mutual trust. We know that our employees are the best and want to give their best. You know we want the best for you and are interested in you as an individual. No one can equal a partnership like this! We do wish all of our employees and their famil- ies a very Happy Thanksgiving Day! Sincerely, Sister Mary Andrew Administrator
