JBQUGH TtjE Dear Employees, On May 28, we will honor 154 long term employees who have been at Saint Joseph Hospital for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years. They have been good years for all of us, and we are fortunate to have so many employees who have served Saint Joseph so well. Our long term employees do much to make new employees feel at home, by telling them the history of Saint Joseph, the good things that have happened through the years, about our strengths and how we try to correct any weaknesses, and how important we consider our employees. We do try to provide a satis- fying work experience for each individual employee, as we all share in the care of the sick. Laura Gaskin, Frances Morgan and Al Holland have been here 25 years; Ann Tennant, Pauline Martinez, Ethel Wheatley, Dorothy Romero, for 20 years; Lois Mermis, Gladys Hitchcock, Margaret Smyth, Katherine Allen, Maria Bernal, Avelina Montoya, Marie Evans, Darnelle Fraser, Frances Greenwood, Bernice Nelson, Alice Thompson, Leland Matlack, Willard Pugh, Jose Martinez, Lucille Batson for 15 years; 47 employees for 10 years and 84 for five years. I am so apprecia- tive for all my fine employees, and for all you do for Saint Joseph. A most grateful thank you, a hearty congratulations, and best wishes for continued health and service at Saint Joseph. May God bless you all most abundantly! Sincerely, Sister Mary Andrew Administrator SAINT JOSEPH HOSPITAL 1835 FRANKLIN DENVER, COLO. 80218 Towefscope A monthly publication of the Hospital Community Relations Department for and about the employees of Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Pastoral Care Corner Father Bernard THECRIPPLER 4 Jealousy and envy are shortcomings which can make us ineffective and cripple us severely. These cripplers are affected by nearly every talent, ability or material well being of others those developed through great effort and time as well as those which are pure gifts of God. Jealousy and envy may even be caused by the voice, features or wit of others. The effects of jealousy and envy are unending. By allowing these weaknesses to be so powerful, I rob myself and make myself less a person. By spending time and emotions on being envious, I fail to appreci- ate, use or develop my own God-given talents and gifts. I imply, consciously or otherwise, that God, the very source of these gifts and talents, has treated me unjustly. I feel that others have been treated well, while I have been neglected. Most important, I try (want) to be someone other than myself. Learn to appreciate your individuality. Don't work to be different from what your talents make you, but rather work to be yourself. Then you will be different, ^B since no two people are alike in gifts and talent. What ^^ an odd and laughable sight it would be if a rabbit, envious of a bird's ability to fly, were to try to take off and fly. We make an odd and laughable sight out of ourselves when we try to be someone other than our real selves. We should admire and appreciate the talents of others, while developing our own gifts and talents. Popeye, of comic strip fame, always said "I am what I am 'cause I am." So be it! Alumnae Set Get-Togethers The Annual Nurses Alumnae breakfast will be held June 12 at 9:00 a.m. in the Doctor's Dining Room at Saint Joseph Hospital. Reservations should be made by June 7 by contacting Ida May Miller, 1642 Frank- lin Street, Denver, Colorado 80218. The fee is $3.00. The Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1943 is planning a reunion for June 12. Those interested in attending should contact Ellen Litzau at 455-1374 for details.
