Approximately 100 girls participated in the summer pro- gram, and all are eagerly awaiting next summer when they will be once more donating their time, talents and enthu- siasm to Saint Joseph Hospital. Pictured above is Mrs. Pat O'Shea, sponsor of the Stripers, who is awarding "hours bars" to the four volunteers who donated over 250 hours each. INFORMATION DESK The smiling, happy face of Mrs. Margaret Gibbs will not be greeting patients for the next month as Mrs. Gibbs is on a European trip. LABORATORY Another European travelor is Miss Judy Giovale who is touring the continent with her mother. Congratulations to the following former students who recently passed the ASCP registry test: Karen Col- lier, Sue Rayn, Helen Ersinger, Barbara Eaton, Ann Bur- nett and John Sy. MAIL ROOM Although the mail has always been on time, it's even more so now that it has been expanded and its three occupants are enjoying the much-needed work space: PHYSICAL MEDICINE Congratulations to Dr. George Twombly, Director of the Physical Medicine Department on his recent ap- pointment to Governor Love's Vocational Rehabilitation Committee. The remodeling of the Physical Medicine depart- ment is in process. At the present time plastering is underway, and the painting of the renovated department will begin in the near future. NEW PAGING SYSTEM GREAT During the past two months several different meth- ods of paging have been used by the switchboard opera- tors in an attempt to reduce the amount of paging neces- sary during the day and evening. This month the operators began paging with only the last three digits of the individual extensions. How- ever, employees are reminded that when dialing a number which is announced over the paging system, you must always dial four numbers--the first number being four. To date the switchboard operators feel the new paging system is a great improvement over the former system, and many patients have remarked on the reduc- tion in the amount of paging. I B M MACHINE ENROUTE The long-awaited new "baby" of the hospital- the IBM 1440 computer-is due any day, and members of the business and accounting offices are busy preparing for its arrival. Many of the other personnel throughout the Hospital have been taking the special IBM program- ming course in an attempt to be prepared when the ma- chine is ready for programming. The computer will permit the hospital to perform billing procedures on the machine. All payroll proced- ures will be accomplished on the machine, and many patient records will be stored in the computer.
