IPPB machines every hour as part of the continuing, all-night
patient care. Additional night staff includes technicians Emma
Shaw, CRTT, Sheila Smith and Marsha Hanks, CRTT.
The Night Vigil
The hallways are empty, dim and quiet. The front
lobby is darkened and silent, in contrast to the busy
in and out activity during daytime hours. The
elevator arrives seconds after being called, rarely
stopping for other passengers. ^
The hospital is a different world at night. But the
prevasive silence is deceptive; throughout the building
a unique group of workers are busy continuing
Security officer Wayne Mills makes continuous rounds of the
hospital, both inside and outside the building.
Lena Nelson, R.IM., keeps busy in the Intensive Care nursery,
which is also staffed by R.N.'s Wanda Depperschmidt, Theresa
Sandoval, Joel Glessner, Jill Barto, Diane Workman, Shari
Hoff, Susan Lachenmaier, Jane Lacey, and Barbara Ledbetter,
L.P.N., on a rotating basis.
