ADMWSTTiATM \U \ Dear Employees, Year end is the time that most people reflect on the past; for me it is a time to look forward. I believe that the new year will bring about many changes. Healthcare reform is an issue fore- most on the minds of many Americans. It is viewed as a social obligation and tops the agenda of the new Clinton administration. Whether it results in mandates to employers to provide health benefits for all employees or a universal healthcare system that ensures all Americans receive comprehensive coverage, it will certainly have an impact on our organization. Change, however, is by no means a negative situation but presents new challenges and opportunities. Our dedication to excellence at Saint Joseph Hospital will give us the competitive advan- tage, and our reputation as "the leader" will pave the way for us. Even with the increased atten- tion to healthcare reform, we must Craft Bazaar Donates Funds to SJH Foundation An enthusiastic contingent of shoppers was waiting for the doors to open at the Saint Joseph Hospital Craft Bazaar on November 6. Holiday crafts, clothing, jewelry, and household items were among the articles for sale by more than 25 talented crofters. The bazaar raised $713.56 for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. The money was contributed to an unrestricted fund to be used where it is needed most. Many thanks are due to the following individuals and groups that contributed to the bazaar's success: The organizing committee (Krista Kielty, Planning and Marketing; Marie Adamson, Foundation; Diane Hall, Cardiovascular Lab; and Terry Okes,HRIS) not lose sight of our primary responsibility which is to the patient; rather, we must continue to make inroads in improving clinical care. We shouldn't stop there, however, because the competitive forces are strong. A renewed vision of excellence, of quality healthcare at affordable prices, is ultimately our responsibility to the commu- nity. This will come from the hard work and dedication of the more than 3,000 exceptional employees we have at Saint Joseph Hospital. We will continue to improve employee satisfaction by enhancing training programs, offering oppor- tunities for advancement and implementing changes resulting from input received from you in the recent QWL opinion survey conducted in September. Superior benefits will continue to be offered and recognition will be given for the efforts of all employees who work as a team to carry out the mission of Saint Joseph Hospital by "providing a level of service that exceeds the expectations of those we serve." The year 1993 will be exciting as we move forward on the path to enhancing our quality. It is our goal to achieve this with the vision, motivation and the desire to main- tain excellence and to truly be "The Leader; The Choice" for the people we serve.
