About this collection

TowerScope was the continuation of the Employee Bulletin publication started in February of 1961.  Its format was upgraded to a sleeker, more modern look, and was printed on a glossy, magazine-type of paper. TowerScope was distributed in-house from January 1966 to May 1978. In July of 1978 TowerScope changed its logo and format, and began to be sent out into the neighborhood and the community. Most of the newsletters say "Published by the Hospital Community Relations Department for employees, staff, and friends of Saint Joseph Hospital, Denver, Colorado", others are also described as "Published by the Planning and Marketing Department".

In November of 1979, the internal newsletter was renamed TowerTalk, and was published until October of 1997 under that name.

Starting in 1980, and for much of the 80's, "seasonal" issues were published under the Fall, Winter, Summer and Spring of 198x moniker. These issues were once again called TowerScope, and were published in addition to the regular monthly issues.  This may account for some of the absences of regular issues for certain months.

In February of 1995, after the results of a survey, TowerTalk became a two-page bi-monthly publication.  This lasted until June of 1996, when it reverted back to a monthly publication.

Issue Nr. 1 of TowerScope starts in June of 1966, and is already named "Volume 16", continuing the volume numbering of its predecessor, the original Employee Bulletin.  The other issues for that year are simply named by number, no volume number is mentioned. There is no issue for the month of October of 1966.

In general, the numbers of the issues are not always sequential, July and August of 1967, for instance, are both named as Nr. 13, and November and December of that year are both numbered 16. Some issues do not appear to have a volume number, only an issue number, however, other issues have a sometimes random volume number assigned to them.  For instance, in 1968, the first few months start out as Volume 3, Issue Nr. X, but the latter months of the year end with Volume 5, Issue Nr. X.

Some years also have a month missing. It is believed that nothing was issued for that month, since there is no break in sequential numbers.

For purposes of this collection, the volume and issue numbering and sequences of the originals was used.
